HUNTERSVILLE, NC (March 17, 2026) – Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville is hosting a World Water Day celebration on Sunday, March 22, inviting children and families to explore the science and importance of water conservation through engaging, hands-on activities. The special event is presented by Charlotte-based Autobell® Car Wash, the largest family-owned car wash company in the United States.
“At Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville, we believe that playful learning is the best way for children to explore and understand the world around them,” said Dr. Nikki Hill, Chief Learning Officer at Discovery Place. “World Water Day is a wonderful opportunity for families to engage in hands-on STEM activities while discovering how every drop of water matters for our planet and our communities.”
World Water Day highlights the vital role water plays in communities everywhere, and at Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville, families can explore, experiment and see firsthand how every drop counts. World Water Day activities include:
- DIY Water Filtration Systems – Explore how different materials clean water.
- Water Pollution and Oil Spill Cleanup Challenge – Experiment with methods to clean a model spill.
- Water Conservation Activity – Learn which everyday actions save water.
- Rain in a Jar Science Show – Visualize the water cycle in action.
- Community Water Cycle Project – Participate in a hands-on project and take home mini flashlights, road trip bingo cards and coloring sheets.
Autobell Car Wash, a Discovery Place Kids Circle member, is helping families see the power of caring for water. By recycling up to 100% of its wash water and using only biodegradable soaps, the company shows how everyday actions can make a real difference in protecting the environment.
“At Autobell, our recognition of water as a precious resource and our efforts to manage it sustainably stretch back to my father’s first exploration of a water-reclaim system at our fourth car wash location in 1972,” said Autobell CEO Chuck Howard, referring to the late Charlie Howard Sr., who founded Autobell in 1969. “Since then, we have put our commitment into practice in a variety of ways, including transitioning to biological 100% water-reclaim systems in many of our washes; organizing community waterway cleanups by Autobell team members; and developing and supporting STEM education programs that teach students the importance of water conservation.”
