“We are so excited to celebrate year 12 with the support of our community,” said Angela Watkins, Director of Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham. “Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham is proud to be a top regional destination for families to enjoy fun-filled, interactive experiences that encourage curiosity, inspire creativity and build a lifelong love of learning.” 
As part of the birthday celebration, Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham is offering free admission on Sunday, February 23 for the first 300 visitors. Free tickets are first come, first served and can be reserved online, while supplies last. Museum festivities will include a celebration-themed science show, birthday dance party, fun photo opportunities, celebratory cupcakes and more.  

“Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham helps to fill a desire for learning and engagement in the community for children and their families, providing wonderful opportunities for them to learn together through immersive play,” said Dr. Nikole (Nikki) L. Hill, Chief Learning Officer at Discovery Place. “We are incredibly grateful for the many supporters and partners we have in this community. Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham is a resource that is driven by the community, for the community and that serves the community.” 

In April 2024, the Museum opened new and expanded exhibits highlighting local industry in and around Rockingham—including a Vulcan Quarry exhibit and four science research stations exploring astronomy, weather, nature and underground. The Museum’s renovations have inspired generations of young learners and expanded the age range served with experiences geared toward older elementary and younger middle school students.
