Mark your calendars! This month, both of our Discovery Place Kids locations are helping the community’s newest schoolchildren get ready for their inaugural first day of school.
Event takes place August 15 in Rockingham
On Thursday, August 15, from 5-7 p.m., Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham will host a free community Countdown to Kindergarten event where incoming kindergarteners can learn the ropes of this school thing before their first day of school later in August. All family members of rising kindergarten students are welcomed to join the festivities, too.
From learning how to carry a lunch tray to practicing scissor safety, Countdown to Kindergarten gives incoming students and their families the chance to feel more confident and comfortable on their first day. In addition to various activities that teach children about carrying a lunch tray, scissor safety and bus safety, the event will feature a representative from each elementary school in the Richmond County school district will attend the event, providing a great opportunity for children to meet someone from their respective schools.
Event takes place August 16 in Huntersville
On Friday, August 16, Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville will host its free community Countdown to Kindergarten event where incoming kindergarteners can learn the ropes of this school thing before their official first day later in August. All family members of rising kindergarten students are welcomed to join the festivities, too.
The event will include a mock classroom, lessons in scissor safety and more. Plus, kindergarten teachers from Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools will be outside on the event lawn to greet your new student. Teachers will introduce themselves to your kindergartener and hopefully will become a familiar face on the first day of school for students attending schools in the North Learning District. In addition, local organizations and community partners will be offering skill-building activities and information that both children and parents will need in preparation for the first day of school.
