Hands-on experience runs August 3–31, included with museum admission

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 29, 2026) – Discovery Place Science will host LEGO® Build & Talk, a new pop-up experience developed by the LEGO Group, beginning August 3. Included with museum admission, LEGO® Build & Talk invites families to learn together through creative LEGO® building activities and conversations about navigating today’s digital world.

“Play has always been one of the most powerful ways families learn together, and that includes digital play,” said Dr. Nikki Hill, Chief Learning Officer at Discovery Place. “As technology continues to shape childhood, it’s important that children and caregivers have opportunities to learn alongside one another, ask questions and build confidence together. We hope families leave this experience with new conversations to continue at home and practical strategies for navigating the digital world.”

Inside LEGO® Build & Talk, families will:
Build and create — Bring digital play scenarios to life through hands-on LEGO® building activities.
Talk and connect — Use playful prompts to spark conversations about digital gaming, online experiences and digital wellbeing.
Play and learn — Discover ways to build digital confidence and develop balanced digital routines together.

Through a grant from the Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) on behalf of the LEGO Group, Discovery Place received support to implement LEGO® Build & Talk.

While the LEGO® brand is widely recognized for its iconic bricks, the LEGO Group’s commitment to learning through play extends beyond physical building. LEGO® Build & Talk was created in response to the growing role digital play has in children’s everyday lives. As video games, apps and other digital experiences have become more common, helping families build digital confidence and healthy online habits has become increasingly important.

Since 2021, Discovery Place has been part of the LEGO® Playful Learning Museum Network, joining 20 leading museums across the U.S. in pioneering experiences that help children, families and communities learn through play.

According to the 2024 LEGO® Play Well Report, 61% of parents say their child knows more about technology than they do, while 63% want to better understand technology so they can support their children as they navigate digital spaces.
In addition to the in-person pop-up experience at Discovery Place Science, families can explore free digital wellbeing activities and resources from the LEGO Group at LEGO.com/families/digital-play
