ROCKINGHAM, NC (October 21, 2025) – Cooler days are setting the stage for a wintry adventure at Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham as the Museum prepares to transform into Wintersville, a brand-new winter wonderland experience beginning November 18 and running through December 29.
At Wintersville, children and families will step into a frosty world filled with playful, hands-on activities and winter-themed adventures. Visitors can glide across a sock skating rink, dive into a flurry of indoor “snowball” fun and marvel at interactive science shows exploring everything from ice fishing and snowstorms in a jar to experiments with melting ice and the effects of cold and warm air.
Throughout the Museum, young explorers will discover “ice” block building zones, balance across iceberg stepping stones and encounter Arctic animal surprises. Nearly every exhibit will feature festive decorations and seasonal twists designed to celebrate winter through the lens of playful learning.
“We’re so excited to welcome families to Wintersville for an experience filled with wonder, learning and joyful memories just waiting to be made,” said Angela Watkins, Director of Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham. “Children will have the chance to discover the magic of winter right here in Rockingham.”
Alongside the magic of Wintersville, in December the Museum will introduce special programs that take an even deeper dive into the science and culture of winter. Visitors will:
- Engineer igloos while learning about Inuit people
- Explore the colorful science behind the Northern Lights
- Compare animals that live at the North and South Poles
- Create their own blizzard and discover the uniqueness of snowflakes
“Wintersville is not just about celebrating the season, but using the magic of winter to inspire curiosity, creativity and connection,” said Dr. Nikki Hill, Chief Learning Officer at Discovery Place. “Whether it’s engineering an igloo, investigating how animals stay warm or experiencing the thrill of indoor snowball play, every element of Wintersville is designed to help children learn through hands-on exploration and joyful learning.”
